Day Three: Tuesday 29th December
Tuesday brought a further decline on the health front. Richard spent virtually all day asleep in bed, being too weak to move anywhere. Samantha played in the various pools and amused herself by coaxing food out of the Bay Gardens restaurant to feed to Richard (still roombound). Some of the waiters were very pleasant and helpful about this; others were not. Sam's plan usually involved sneaking in and finding someone who looked helpful and more often than not she was successful. Most of the food procured in this way was interesting, and although we did not particularly rave about any of it, it was all good, and in general considerably better than the first night's culinary disaster. A local doctor was summoned who came and dispensed medicine antibiotics, anti-inflammatory paracetamol-type pills and evil-tasting decongestant, in return for the extraordinary sum of $80.
About this time we were beginning to feel more pleasantly disposed toward the resort, as the standard of food had picked up markedly. Poor health excepted, it would otherwise at this point have turned into quite an enjoyable stay, our feelings of being trapped and ripped off having ameliorated considerably.
