Day Sixteen: Monday 11th January

What joy to be back in Blighty again. It was wonderful to feel that cool January weather on our faces as we emerged from the plane at Gatwick, and not to have to face the rigours of Caribbean/American bureaucracy. After the usual passport and luggage checks we went to find a cab to take us home. The taxis that service Gatwick airport were a complete rip-off and there are no black cabs in sight: there seems to be a sinister duopoly operating with a fleet of dark blue saloon cars at the taxi rank and they wanted to charge us £65 to take us into London! We called a reliable cab firm called Handicars instead and a man arrived very quickly. The journey cost us £34, which was much more reasonable.

Although we were both tired and weary we enjoyed the journey home and felt a great sense of relief after our adventures in the Caribbean. Although it was a good experience, there were several disappointments along the way and more than any other holiday before, it served as a reminder of how lovely our own country is to live in.
