Conclusion
We both love to travel but after this holiday have decided to wait a while before taking another long haul trip. It was a bit of a culture shock when we had to deal with the Caribbean attitudes and standards which are very different to European ones (we spoke to fellow travellers from Germany and Switzerland on the boat and they felt the same). Many of the tourist attractions in the guide books would not have been considered worth mentioning in a comparable European Guide. It was an expensive holiday too, offering dubious value for money at times, and we both felt that we could have had as much, if not more pleasure in Europe. Undoubtedly our feelings were influenced by Richard's illness which took away a great deal of opportunity to explore St Lucia and Sam's pregnancy which made her less mobile than usual and prone to feelings of nausea throughout the holiday. Having said that we both feel that the Caribbean is perhaps a little over-rated as a holiday destination.
